Ukraine on Sunday claimed full control of the eastern logistics hub of Lyman.
This is considered a big success for Ukraine, which has been lagging behind in the war with Russia for a few weeks. This major setback for Russian President Vladimir Putin came when Ukraine regained the logistics hub. For Russia, this region was a very important centre for making land connectivity.
According to NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Ukrainian flags waving over the city indicate that Ukraine is capable of repelling Russian forces and showed that Ukraine’s deployment of advanced Western weapons is overwhelming Putin’s forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that the country’s troops’ success was not limited to recapturing Lyman. He said the Ukrainian army had also liberated Arkhangelske and Myrolyubivka settlements in the Kherson region.
Ukraine’s Interfax agency reported that Ukrainian forces recaptured Torsk, a small village in the Donetsk region about 15 kilometres (9 mi) east of the now liberated Lyman. Russia’s defence ministry said on Saturday it was withdrawing troops from the Lyman region, sensing the threat of a siege.
The Russian army destroyed seven artillery and missile depots in the Ukrainian regions of Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolaiv and Dansk. Zelensky said the abduction of the director general of Ukraine’s Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant was a result of Russian terror. “This is yet another example of a clear act of Russian terrorism for which the people will continue to suffer,” Zelensky said in his video address on the night.
