Nakheel awards Jebel Ali Village construction contracts

Dubai-based real estate developer Nakheel has confirmed the award of construction contracts for the redevelopment of Jebel Ali Village.

The contract for the construction of the villas and their infrastructure has been awarded to the local iBuild, and the contract for the construction of the townhouses and their infrastructure has been awarded to the local United Engineering Construction Company (Unec).

MEED reported in March that iBuild has been awarded an estimated AED800m ($218m) contract to build villas as part of the redevelopment of Jebel Ali Village in Dubai. Located just off Sheikh Zayed Road and in close proximity to Ibn Battuta Mall, Jebel Ali Village was initially constructed in the 1970s to house workers who were building Jebel Ali Port. The village, which is one of Dubai’s oldest residential communities for expatriates, recently saw its tenants being served eviction notices in October 2021, with the final tenants vacating their homes in October 2022.

The consultancy team is made up of US-based Parsons and local firm Arch Group.

The amenities planned for the new development include parks and water features, jogging and biking trails, a community vegetable farm, swimming pools, children’s play areas, and sports facilities like a five-a-side football pitch, padel tennis court, and basketball court.

Apart from the Jebel Ali Village project, Nakheel is also working on other residential developments in the area, such as Murooj al-Furjan and Tilal al-Furjan.
