Police said that 174 people have died in the incident, out of which two are police officers. 34 people died on the spot inside the stadium and the rest were in the hospital. Videos of the incident have also surfaced, in which fans are seen throwing items at the security personnel. To control the crowd, the police lathi-charged and fired teargas shells. The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) has issued a statement expressing grief over the incident.
PSSI said that what happened after the game will be investigated and for this, a team has left for Malang. PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) President Akhmad Hadian Lukita said that we are deeply saddened by this incident. Hopefully, this will be a lesson for all of us.
