Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh has been killed in Tehran, hours after attending the inauguration of new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Palestinian group has said.
Video from Tuesday shows him meeting the president and Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Israel is yet to respond to accusations it was behind the attack, but had previously vowed to “crush” Hamas following the October 7 attacks that killed 1,200 Israelis.
More than 39,000 Palestinians have since been killed in the war in Gaza, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry.
