Rahul Gandhi’s convoy stopped by police

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was going from Imphal to Bishnupur, the police stopped Rahul Gandhi’s convoy on the way. Refused to go ahead. Rahul Gandhi was able to move only about 20 km from Imphal.

Congress workers protested. On the other hand, there was a protest against Rahul Gandhi in Manipur. The protesters displayed protest posters and raised slogans of Rahul Gandhi going back.

The police released tear gas shells. There were many Congressmen in Rahul Gandhi’s convoy. After which Rahul Gandhi returned to Imphal. Rahul Gandhi had a two-day tour of Manipur today.

He plans to visit the violence-affected areas as well as meet with several civil society representatives.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s convoy is returning to Imphal after the police did not allow it to proceed further. Bishnupur SP told that no one including Rahul can be allowed to go ahead. Their safety is our priority. There has been arson and the situation was worse last night as well.

Meanwhile, some Congress workers tried to break the barricading. On which the police removed the crowd leaving tear gas shells. Rahul Gandhi had planned to stay in Manipur on 29 and 30 June. Apart from this, Rahul Gandhi was to interact with representatives of civil society in Imphal and Churachandpur, the capital of Manipur.

Stopping Rahul Gandhi’s convoy is unacceptable – Mallikarjun Kharge

Expressing protest, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that stopping Rahul Gandhi’s convoy is unacceptable. Peace is needed in Manipur, not conflict, he said.

Congress General Secretary’s objection

Expressing objection, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that Rahul Gandhi’s convoy was stopped by the police near Bishnupur. The police are not in a position to permit us. People are standing on both sides of the road to shake hands with Rahul Gandhi. We are not able to understand why they have stopped us.

KC Venugopal further said that I do not know why the police are not permitting us. This visit of Rahul Gandhi is only for meeting the affected people. We travelled about 20.25 km but there was no roadblock anywhere. Rahul Gandhi is sitting inside the car. I don’t know who instructed the local police.
