  5. In Gaza, witnesses say Israeli warplanes bombed the southern city of Rafah. Palestinian media report at least 18 people were killed in an air strike on a residential building
  6. Elsewhere, fierce gun battles raged around hospitals in nearby Khan Younis and Gaza City
  7. Meanwhile talks between Israeli and Hamas representatives aimed at ending the fighting continue via mediators in Qatar
