LONDON: Andre Agassi advised \u200cformer US Open champion Emma Raducanu to avoid judging her effort by her results and be comfortable with herself, after she said his autobiography inspired her attempts to shake off a five-year performance slump in the majors.<\/p>\n
Eight-times Grand Slam winner Agassi endured a four-year barren spell between \u200cwinning the \u200c1995 Australian Open and \u200c1999 French Open, during which his ranking fell to 141st in the world.<\/p>\n
The American wrote about his battle to regain his form in his autobiography in 2009. Briton Raducanu, 23, has not reached the last eight of a \u200cmajor since her \u200cshock 2021 US Open triumph.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would encourage \u200cher to focus on being the \u200cbest of herself on a daily basis, but don\u2019t judge that by results or thinking that somehow you have to \u200cbe 100 percent,\u201d Agassi told the BBC on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to learn to be 100 percent of whatever percent you\u2019re at (and) be comfortable in your own identity inside of that, not what people say.\u201d<\/p>\n
Japan\u2019s Naomi Osaka, who won her fourth Grand Slam in 2021, also took inspiration from Agassi\u2019s book last year, when she reached the US Open semifinals for the first time in five years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
