{"id":86648,"date":"2026-07-13T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/uk-starts-first-vaccine-trial-eight-weeks-into-ebola-emergency\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T08:00:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T08:00:00","slug":"uk-starts-first-vaccine-trial-eight-weeks-into-ebola-emergency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=86648","title":{"rendered":"UK starts first vaccine trial, eight weeks into Ebola emergency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Oxford Covid vaccine was estimated to have saved six million lives in the first year it was used around the world and hundreds of millions of doses have been taken.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However, the vaccine was also restricted for use in some countries because of rare blood clots which affected up to one in 100,000 people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It is possible this vaccine carries the same risk, although this is much lower than the threat from the Bundibugyo species of Ebola which kills around a third of those infected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Pollock said severe side effects are &#8220;very rare&#8221; and they thought &#8220;very deeply&#8221; about the implications for trials on healthy people, and that any risk would be communicated to volunteers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I want to stress that the Covid AstraZeneca vaccine was given to millions of people safely,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">There are three other vaccines being developed for the Bundibugyo species of Ebola. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">These include one from biotechnology company Moderna using their mRNA vaccine technology.
