\n\tJEDDAH: On arrival at Six Senses Southern Dunes \u2014\u202fa Red Sea Global resort \u2014 we were greeted by a \u201cSix Drums\u201d ritual \u201cinspired by the resort\u2019s guiding philosophy.\u201d The \u201csixth sense\u201d is interpreted here as intuition.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tThat concept runs through the resort \u2014\u202fstaff are\u00a0apparently trained\u00a0to\u00a0anticipate\u00a0guests\u2019 needs\u00a0in regard to\u00a0comfort and wellbeing, shaping a sense of calm that feels\u00a0immediate and intentional.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tOne\u00a0of the first surprises was a free around-the-clock gelato wheel offering\u00a0a range of\u00a0flavors, many locally inspired. The standout for me was mango from\u00a0Umluj\u00a0with\u00a0Saudi coffee,\u00a0full of flavors that reflected familiar Arabian notes of cardamom, saffron, cloves and roasted beans.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWe\u00a0stayed in one of the expansive\u00a0pool villas \u2014\u00a0earthy tones, timber ceilings, sand-colored\u00a0walls\u00a0and furniture inspired by Bedouin textures. The bedroom featured a ceiling canopy bed facing the desert, along with a private pool and uninterrupted dune views.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tThe bathroom was equally generous in scale,\u00a0with\u00a0indoor\u00a0rain shower,\u00a0outdoor\u00a0shower overlooking the desert, and a sunken bathtub. The outdoor shower quickly became a favorite, allowing a closer connection to the natural surroundings. Even\u00a0the\u00a0small details\u00a0reflected a\u00a0sustainable\u00a0approach, from wooden toothbrushes to biodegradable amenities.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tThe\u00a0resort\u00a0hosts\u00a0three main\u00a0dining\u00a0venues:\u00a0Bariya\u00a0(international cuisine),\u00a0Al-Sarab\u00a0(Middle Eastern), which stood out for its creativity and depth of flavors, and\u00a0The Pool Bar & Grill\u00a0(Latin American-inspired dishes).\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tBariya\u00a0focuses on natural ingredients and dishes prepared from scratch. One of its most distinctive offerings was a \u201cRocket\u00a0Fuel\u201d wellness drink\u00a0\u2014\u00a0organic apple cider vinegar, citrus fruits, turmeric, ginger, garlic,\u00a0black pepper,\u00a0and herbs, all\u00a0fermented over\u00a010\u00a0days. Alongside it were homemade kombucha and tepache, a fermented pineapple drink.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tWellness\u00a0is\u00a0central\u00a0to any\u00a0stay\u00a0here. The spa is divided into themed rooms, each designed around a distinct sensory identity. My treatment took place in the Frankincense room, where scent played a key role in shaping the atmosphere.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tI also attended a\u00a0sound therapy session, led by practitioner\u00a0Magenda, who also conducted a yoga class focused on disconnection from external stress.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a deeply calming experience, so much so that\u00a0one guest fell asleep mid-class.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tOne of\u00a0our\u00a0final experiences\u00a0at the resort was\u00a0a soap-making workshop at Earth Lab. Guests\u00a0mixed natural ingredients such as turmeric, cloves, flowers,\u00a0orange\u00a0and honey, while\u00a0observing\u00a0the chemical transformation into handmade soap. The process was both educational and hands-on, reinforcing the resort\u2019s emphasis on environmental awareness.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tFor those\u00a0seeking\u00a0more energetic activities, a visit to\u00a0ADRENA\u00a0water park is recommended.\u00a0Activities range from surfing to paddle challenges, though my own experience remained\u00a0water-focused. The highlight was the \u201cslip and fly,\u201d a high slide that launches\u00a0you\u00a0into a saltwater pool, delivering a brief,\u00a0but intense,\u00a0burst of adrenaline.\u00a0All water attractions use saltwater to simulate a natural marine environment, with the exception of the children\u2019s pool.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tAt AKUN,\u00a0we joined an e-quadrunner\u00a0excursion across the Southern Dunes. Initially hesitant, I quickly adapted to the controls and began to enjoy the ride. Our guide, Captain Khaled Al-Johani, led the journey across vast stretches of golden sand, stopping to explain elements of the local ecosystem, including the Arak tree and a dried\u00a0lake bed\u00a0that once supported small wildlife such as frogs and wasps. The experience, priced at SAR\u00a0650, combines\u00a0adventure with environmental storytelling.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tAnother major draw at the resort is the astonishing stargazing available every night. Light pollution is carefully controlled\u00a0here, and\u00a0staring at the night sky was one of the\u00a0most memorable and quietly powerful experiences of\u00a0our\u00a0stay\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a reminder of the stillness and scale that defines Six Senses Southern Dunes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tAs we checked out, the reception team offered a small wooden keepsake engraved with my name in Arabic on one side and the Six Senses logo on the other\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a\u00a0typically\u00a0simple but thoughtful\u00a0and elegant\u00a0gesture\u00a0that accurately reflected our stay.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
