The venerable Boeing CH-47 Chinook, a tandem-rotor heavy-lift helicopter that first flew in 1961, continues to dominate its category with no official replacement currently under development.<\/strong><\/p>\nWhile the Army presses ahead with modernization under its Future Vertical Lift (FVL) initiative, the focus has largely been on replacing medium-lift and reconnaissance platforms. Only the proprotors and gearboxes tilt, reducing mechanical complexity and weight.<\/p>\n
The Osprey\u2019s design, while groundbreaking, has faced scrutiny due to maintenance demands and incidents linked to its transmission system.
