{"id":80782,"date":"2025-12-19T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-19T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/south-sudan-un-condemns-killing-of-un-staff-member-in-wau-calls-for-swift-investigation\/"},"modified":"2025-12-19T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-12-19T12:00:00","slug":"south-sudan-un-condemns-killing-of-un-staff-member-in-wau-calls-for-swift-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=80782","title":{"rendered":"South Sudan: UN condemns killing of UN staff member in Wau, calls for swift investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In a statement by his spokesperson, <strong>Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres condemned \u201cin the strongest terms\u201d the killing of Mr. Bol Rhoch Mayol Kuot, a South Sudanese national<\/strong> employed as a Language Assistant with UNMISS.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Guterres extended his deepest condolences to the staff member\u2019s family and loved ones and reaffirmed the United Nations\u2019 commitment to providing all possible support during this profoundly difficult time.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Mr. Kuot was forcibly detained on 15 December by security actors near Wau town in Western Bahr el Ghazal state and was subsequently killed by his captors. UNMISS received confirmation of his death earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are devastated by the loss of our colleague,\u201d Anita Kiki Gbeho, Officer-in-Charge of UNMISS, said in a separate statement, describing Mr. Kuot as a dedicated member of the UN team committed to serving the people of South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Such killing of United Nations personnel is unacceptable. We call for an immediate and thorough investigation to determine the circumstances of his detention and death and to ensure justice for him and his family.
