\u201cMultipolarity alone is no guarantee of peace<\/strong>,\u201d he said. Without strong cooperation, it can fuel rivalry rather than balance.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking at a summit between the\u00a0African Union (AU)<\/strong> \u2013 the continent\u2019s political and economic union \u2013 and the\u00a0European Union (EU)<\/strong>, the bloc of 27 European states, he argued that the two regions could form a \u201ccentral axis\u201d of a fairer global order.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n He said this could correct \u201chistoric injustices\u201d and give countries long excluded from global decision-making a real voice.\u00a0<\/p>\n He outlined three areas where cooperation can drive change.<\/p>\n Guterres said today\u2019s financial rules are \u201cunfair and ineffective\u201d. Many African countries remain trapped in debt repayments that leave little space for investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n He called for ending unsustainable debt, tripling the lending power of multilateral development banks and giving developing nations greater influence over global finance.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cTogether, you can end the injustice of poverty<\/strong>,\u201d he told leaders. He added that\u00a0by working together, the regions can also address\u00a0pressures behind irregular migration and displacement.<\/p>\n Africa has huge solar and wind potential and many of the minerals needed for clean-energy technologies. Demand for these minerals will triple by 2030.\u00a0<\/p>\n Mr. Guterres said this creates a chance to move beyond exporting raw materials and instead build processing and manufacturing industries at home.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cAfrica has the resources and a young workforce. Europe has the capital and know-how,\u201d he said.
