{"id":76074,"date":"2025-09-25T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/post-war-somalia-proves-multilateralism-can-make-the-world-a-better-place-says-president\/"},"modified":"2025-09-25T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T12:00:00","slug":"post-war-somalia-proves-multilateralism-can-make-the-world-a-better-place-says-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=76074","title":{"rendered":"Post-war Somalia proves multilateralism can make the world a better place, says President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Somalia\u2019s story is one of \u201creal national effort supported by truly committed international partners,\u201d he said, referring to the country\u2019s transition from all-out civil conflict beginning in 2012.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, Somalia is evidence that multilateralism and global solidarity can make the world a better, safer and progressive place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He affirmed that as a current member of the Security Council, his nation is working with other international partners to find solutions for peace in the Middle East, Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Mohamud called for an \u201cimmediate and lasting ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, and renewed commitment towards the two-State solution,\u201d on the issue of Palestine.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u2018Pockets of international terrorism\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Back home, Somalia is battling the \u201clast remaining pockets of international terrorism while building a strong and sustainable national security architecture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Recalling that Somalia was once Africa\u2019s first democracy, he declared that the country is preparing now for its first full national elections in 57 years. More than 30 independent political associations have already registered their participation.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u2018Taking responsibility\u2019 for economic development<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cIn Somalia, we are taking responsibility for our own economic development by building on the success of our recent reform-based debt relief,\u201d Mr. Mohamud said, pointing to Somalia\u2019s efforts to mitigate the cost of public service investment.<\/p>\n<p>He affirmed Somalia\u2019s commitment to benefit from its strategic location and natural resources through trade and said that to support that ambition, the country has joined the East Africa Community, is ratifying policies aligned with the African Continental Free Trade Area and continues the process of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO).<\/p>\n<p>To combat the adverse impact of climate change, Mr. Mohamud announced the establishment of Somalia\u2019s National Climate Fund to channel sustainable finance to communities transparently, along with efforts to restore degraded lands and strengthen water security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He called on international institutions and capital markets to facilitate \u201caccessible, affordable, predictable, and just\u201d financing for Somalia\u2019s sustainable growth and climate change mitigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNations on the frontlines like Somalia cannot be left to face this crisis alone unsupported by the dominant global financial architecture which is not fit for purpose in this age of great challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/feed\/view\/en\/story\/2025\/09\/1165952\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Somalia\u2019s story is one of \u201creal national effort supported by truly committed international partners,\u201d he said,&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":76075,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"content-type":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[22],"tags":[7661,3332,5331,296,4854,2025,1201],"class_list":["post-76074","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-africa","tag-multilateralism","tag-place","tag-postwar","tag-president","tag-proves","tag-somalia","tag-world"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v21.0 (Yoast SEO v28.5) -
