Now, however, that timeline appears set to be accelerated following the latest round of talks.<\/p>\nThe renewed push underscores Russia\u2019s enduring role as India\u2019s principal arms supplier. Between 2020 and 2024, Moscow accounted for\u00a036% of Indian arms imports<\/strong>, followed closely by France at 33% and Israel at 13%.<\/p>\nDespite India\u2019s diversification efforts \u2014 buying Rafale fighters from France, Barak-8 missiles from Israel, and indigenous Akash systems \u2014 Russia remains New Delhi\u2019s most trusted partner in strategic defence platforms.<\/p>\n
That trust was again visible at the\u00a0Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in China<\/strong>, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi reinforced India\u2019s alignment with Moscow, telling Russian President Vladimir Putin that India and Russia \u201cstood side by side even in difficult times.\u201d<\/p>\nPutin, in turn, referred to Modi as his \u201cdear friend,\u201d a signal that beyond the optics of diplomacy, Moscow views New Delhi as a cornerstone for its influence in South Asia \u2014 especially as Russia grows increasingly isolated from the West.<\/p>\n
This diplomatic warmth is anchored in realpolitik: India continues to rely on Russian strategic systems like the S-400 not only for deterrence, but for its very survival in a two-front conflict scenario.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0S-400 Triumf<\/strong>\u00a0(NATO reporting name: SA-21 Growler) is widely considered among the world\u2019s most advanced integrated air defence systems.
