{"id":59229,"date":"2025-07-21T18:14:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T18:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/at-the-final-checkpoint-before-the-dangerous-road-to-suweida-city\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T18:14:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T18:14:00","slug":"at-the-final-checkpoint-before-the-dangerous-road-to-suweida-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=59229","title":{"rendered":"At the final checkpoint before the &#8216;dangerous&#8217; road to Suweida city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Bedouin fighters positioned outside the southern Syrian city of Suweida have told the BBC they will observe a ceasefire with the Druze community there, but have not ruled out resuming hostilities. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Bedouin fighters have retreated from the city to surrounding villages in the province after a week of deadly sectarian clashes between Druze fighters, Bedouins and government forces, with Israel carrying out air strikes in support of the Druze.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Dozens of government security personnel, all heavily armed, continue to block the Bedouin from re-entering the city of Suweida. <\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Bedouin fighters want the release of injured Bedouin people still in the city, who they refer to as hostages.
