{"id":47869,"date":"2024-11-16T20:54:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-16T20:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/us-reports-first-case-of-clade-i-mpox-in-california\/"},"modified":"2024-11-16T20:54:00","modified_gmt":"2024-11-16T20:54:00","slug":"us-reports-first-case-of-clade-i-mpox-in-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=47869","title":{"rendered":"US reports first case of Clade I mpox in California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The CDPH said that while Clade I cases had tended to cause more severe illness than Clade II in the past, &#8220;recent infections from Clade I mpox may not be as clinically severe as in previous outbreaks&#8221;. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mpox is caused by a virus in the same family as smallpox but is usually much less harmful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It was originally transmitted from animals to humans but now also passes between humans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Initial symptoms include fever, headaches, swellings, back pain and aching muscles. A rash can then develop, which can be extremely itchy or painful.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The infection can clear up on its own and lasts between 14 and 21 days, but in some cases has been fatal, particularly for vulnerable groups including small children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mpox is most common in remote villages in the tropical rainforests of West and Central Africa, in countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), where it has been seen for many years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Hundreds of people died during an initial outbreak in DR Congo earlier this year, and the disease has since spread to areas of Central and East Africa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Outbreaks can be controlled by preventing infections with vaccines, though these are usually only available for people at risk or those who have been in close contact with an infected person.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cy87gr4l02mo\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CDPH said that while Clade I cases had tended to cause more severe illness than&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":47872,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"content-type":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[3892,768,3663,1091,1031],"class_list":["post-47869","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-health","tag-california","tag-case","tag-clade","tag-mpox","tag-reports"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v21.0 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
