{"id":47234,"date":"2024-11-01T02:29:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-01T02:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/gps-care-homes-and-hospices-voice-concern-over-budget-tax-rises\/"},"modified":"2024-11-01T02:29:00","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T02:29:00","slug":"gps-care-homes-and-hospices-voice-concern-over-budget-tax-rises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=47234","title":{"rendered":"GPs, care homes and hospices voice concern over Budget tax rises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">On Thursday Health Secretary Wes Streeting acknowledged there were a number of healthcare providers that will be affected by the NI rise for employers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Asked whether social care providers would be protected, he told the BBC&#8217;s World at One programme: &#8220;I&#8217;m working through that now and I&#8217;ll have more to say on that in the coming weeks in terms of what we can do more quickly to deliver the shift I&#8217;ve wanted to see for some time, in the focus of NHS investment spending out of hospitals into primary community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He pointed to the extra \u00a3600m allocated to social care in the Budget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Care groups have said this would not be enough and would be &#8220;wiped off instantly&#8221; by increased staffing costs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">For GPs, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones told Question Time on Thursday that GPs will have to pay employer NI contributions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;GP surgeries are privately-owned partnerships, they\u2019re not part of the public sector,&#8221; he said. &#8220;They will therefore have to pay them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But he said &#8220;how much they pay will depend on the size&#8221;, because the government had designed the new system &#8220;so that it protects the smallest businesses&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The OBR\u2019s confirmed that over 50% of businesses will either not pay any more than they\u2019re already paying or they\u2019ll pay less or nothing at all because we\u2019ve increased the threshold, the allowance, from \u00a35,000 to \u00a310,500 a year,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added: &#8220;For the broader public sector\u2026 we\u2019re going to be working that through the system understanding the implications for different public services.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cgl409gww1go\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday Health Secretary Wes Streeting acknowledged there were a number of healthcare providers that will&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":47237,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"content-type":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[3437,587,217,1436,3683,2549,1738,940,3129],"class_list":["post-47234","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-health","tag-budget","tag-care","tag-concern","tag-gps","tag-homes","tag-hospices","tag-rises","tag-tax","tag-voice"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v21.0 (Yoast SEO v27.4) -
