{"id":44017,"date":"2024-09-07T23:04:49","date_gmt":"2024-09-07T23:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/plan-to-hit-18-week-nhs-wait-target-set-to-fail\/"},"modified":"2024-09-07T23:04:49","modified_gmt":"2024-09-07T23:04:49","slug":"plan-to-hit-18-week-nhs-wait-target-set-to-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=44017","title":{"rendered":"Plan to hit 18-week NHS wait target &#8216;set to fail&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The NHS Confederation called for fundamental changes, including investment in digital technologies and greater use of robotic surgery and AI.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Significant savings could be achieved through carrying out fewer appointments before and after treatment, it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Follow-up checks could be done remotely and in some cases scrapped altogether, leaving it to the patient to decide whether they needed to be seen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The number of assessments and appointments carried out could also be reduced by joining up care better for the 1.2 million people who are waiting for more than one treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The report also said hospitals had to do better at vetting their waiting lists, warning time was being wasted chasing up patients who no longer needed treatment, either because they had already paid for it privately, decided not to have it or, in some cases, had died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But it said achieving these productivity improvements would require upfront investment in buildings and technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The report also called for more to be done to prevent ill health, to reduce the numbers needing treatment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Department of Health and Social Care said improving productivity and investing in technology would be part of its plan, alongside expanding the number of appointments and operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Fixing the NHS will be difficult and will take time, but this government will deliver the investment and reforms needed to turn the service around,&#8221; its spokesperson added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/crlr7d4wl7go\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The NHS Confederation called for fundamental changes, including investment in digital technologies and greater use of&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":44020,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"content-type":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[2665,2666,417,364,1798,2290,2608,2491],"class_list":["post-44017","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-health","tag-18week","tag-fail","tag-hit","tag-nhs","tag-plan","tag-set","tag-target","tag-wait"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v21.0 (Yoast SEO v28.5) -
