NEW DELHI<\/strong><\/p>\nBihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, after breaking the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), seems to be in a mission-2024 mode. He has appealed for opposition unity to stop the victory chariot of the BJP. Some time ago, he had also met with about a dozen leaders in Delhi.<\/p>\n
After this, suddenly news comes on Saturday that like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nitish Kumar can also contest the Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh. His party Janata Dal United\u2019s national president Lalan Singh claimed that Nitish Kumar has offered to contest from several seats in UP. Party workers of Phulpur and Mirzapur also want Nitish to submit his claim from there. However, he also said that it is at the will of Nitish Kumar from where he will contest.<\/p>\n
The JDU has also claimed that an alliance of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav could defeat the mighty BJP in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. Now before this claim of JDU, there is a need to have a look at the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Samajwadi Party had an alliance with Congress and election strategist Prashant Kishor gave the slogan.<\/p>\n
There was a lot of discussion about this slogan throughout the election, but it proved to be futile in front of the popularity of Narendra Modi. The results surprised political pundits. Despite contesting elections together, there was a tremendous setback in the vote percentage of both parties. SP got 21.8 per cent votes in this election. At the same time, Congress had to be satisfied with only a 6.25 per cent vote bank.<\/p>\n
Let us tell you that when Akhilesh Yadav offered the Congress to come together, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi felt that together a way could be found for the return of the party in Uttar Pradesh. Election strategist Prashant Kishor launched the Akhilesh-Rahul youth pair on the political pitch of UP with full fanfare. Together they addressed many rallies and also did road shows.<\/p>\n
Akhilesh Yadav, showing a big heart, gave 105 seats to the Congress party, but in more than two dozen seats, the SP had to field candidates on its own symbol. When the results came out, BJP got 312 seats out of 384. At the same time, only 47 candidates of SP, who fought for 311 seats, could win the election. Only 7 candidates of the Congress party, which contested 114 seats, could become MLAs.<\/p>\n
Why is JDU excited about Phulpur?<\/h2>\n
Phulpur is considered to be the high-profile seat of Uttar Pradesh. From here, India\u2019s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was elected MP three times. Apart from this, many other big leaders have also contested from here. These days a question in the minds of the people is why is JDU trying to choose this seat for Nitish Kumar? The answer to this question is the caste equation here. Phulpur is considered the seat of Patels. Patel means Kurmi, the caste from which Nitish Kumar comes.<\/p>\n
In this seat, 17 per cent of the population belongs to the Patel community. JDU hopes that if SP supports Nitish Kumar, then he will get the support of Yadav and Muslim voters. Let us tell you that the number of Muslim voters in this seat is about 13 per cent. Yadavs also have a good population. In such a situation, JDU is seen presenting Nitish Kumar\u2019s candidature on the formula of 1 + 1 = 2. But, JDU also has to keep in mind that this formula does not always hit in politics. The bua-babua pair had failed in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as well.<\/p>\n
Before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Akhilesh Yadav reached out to his sister-in-law and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati. In this election, both formed an alliance in UP. It was also named Mahagathbandhan on the lines of Bihar. However, Congress distanced itself from the SP in this election.<\/p>\n
It was very important for the BJP to win UP, as the 2014 results surprised everyone. Amit Shah\u2019s strategy had led to victory for 71 candidates of the saffron camp. In the 2019 elections, BJP lost only 9 seats. Mayawati remained in profit. 10 of his candidates became MPs. But the results surprised Akhilesh. Only 5 candidates of his party could win.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
