LONDON<\/strong><\/p>\n
One is Liz Truss, Britain\u2019s former foreign secretary and now prime minister. The other is Liz Trussell, an ordinary Twitter user.<\/p>\n
But having snapped up the @Liztruss Twitter handle more than a decade ago, the \u201cother Liz Truss\u201d has suddenly found herself bombarded with messages intended for Downing Street\u2019s newest resident, whose handle is @trussliz.<\/p>\n
Sweden\u2019s Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson was among those who managed to mistakenly congratulate Trussell, who has been revelling in the confusion, firing back with wisecracks and jokes.<\/p>\n
\u201cCongratulations to Liz Truss,\u201d Andersson wrote, adding that \u201cSweden and Great Britain will continue our deep and extensive cooperation\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cLooking forward to a visit soon!\u201d Trussell replied. \u201cGet the meatballs ready.\u201d<\/p>\nScreenshots from Twitter<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
Among others to get the two mixed up \u2014 after Truss won the contest to be the new Conservative Party leader and replace Boris Johnson as premier \u2014 were MP and Green Party leader Caroline Lucas.<\/p>\n
Lucas berated Truss in her tweet for being a \u201cright wing ideologue\u201d and predicting her tenure in number 10 would be a \u201cdisaster for all of us\u201d.<\/p>\n
She later apologised, adding that Trussell would \u201cprobably make a better job\u201d of leading the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m in! Vegas for everybody,\u201d responded Trussell, who has around 3,400 followers compared to Truss\u2019s over 360,000.<\/p>\n
Trussell, whose Twitter photo shows her in high spirits dressed in a pink party dress, has certainly been enjoying her moment in the limelight.<\/p>\n
Observers likened it to the annual Christmas mix-up involving the British department store John Lewis and an American man who shares his name.<\/p>\n
After Truss was accused on Twitter of snubbing her rival for the Tory leadership Rishi Sunak by not shaking his hand before her victory speech, Trussell explained she had been busy at a restaurant.<\/p>\n
\u201cSorry, I was in Nandos,\u201d she responded.<\/p>\n
And her humorous responses have won her plenty of admirers, with one local politician proposing a petition in her support.<\/p>\n
\u201cPetition for @Liztruss to become PM tomorrow in place of @trussliz,\u201d wrote Matt Dent on Monday.<\/p>\n
Another, Jake Graham, suggested the Tory party just ditch the real Liz Truss and go with Trussell.<\/p>\n
