\u201cReports of attacks on civilians in Ethiopia\u2019s Amhara and Tigray regions are deeply disturbing<\/strong>,\u201d Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote in\u00a0a post on social media.<\/p>\n He said children, including a newborn, were among fatalities at a displacement camp in Amhara.\u00a0<\/p>\n In a separate strike in the town of Rama in Tigray, several people were reportedly killed while trying to get food.<\/p>\n Fresh fighting between Ethiopian Government forces and rebel groups resumed in the two regions and another, Afar, in September nearly four years after a peace deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres\u00a0has warned of the risk of escalation and wider destabilization.<\/p>\n Last Friday, he said he was appalled by recent attacks on civilians \u2013 including health facilities.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Secretary-General calls on the parties to spare the civilian population and critical infrastructure and agree without delay to a cessation of hostilities as a first step towards ending this devastating conflict<\/strong>, said the statement issued by his Spokesperson.<\/p>\n \u201cHe renews his urgent appeal to the parties to engage in good faith with mediation efforts<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n While the deadly strikes marked the latest incidents, \u201cdrone attacks and civilian casualties have tragically become frequent across Ethiopia\u201d, Tedros said.<\/p>\nAttacks \u2018tragically\u2019 frequent<\/strong><\/h2>\n
