{"id":105007,"date":"2026-10-27T10:44:36","date_gmt":"2026-10-27T10:44:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=105007"},"modified":"2026-10-27T10:44:36","modified_gmt":"2026-10-27T10:44:36","slug":"kenya-20-ebola-contacts-released-from-quarantine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=105007","title":{"rendered":"Kenya: 20 Ebola contacts released from quarantine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The contacts were discharged on Monday, according to the UN World Health Organization (WHO), which has been assisting the Kenyan authorities with Ebola preparedness since the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) declared an outbreak on 15 May.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another 98 contacts remain in quarantine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>No risk to the community<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The people who are now back at home remained asymptomatic during quarantine and underwent standard protocols, including a final health assessment, counselling on post-discharge precautions and follow-up where required before being released.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe ask communities to welcome them home warmly,\u201d said Dr Patrick Amoth, Kenya\u2019s director general for health. \u201cHaving completed 21 days without symptoms, they pose no risk of infection to anyone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The WHO representative to Kenya, Dr Neema Rusibamayila Kimambo, echoed his message.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who complete quarantine have helped protect their families, their communities and the whole country,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Rush to trace contacts<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Kenya confirmed its first Ebola case on 6 October \u2013 a Kenyan man who had been working in the DRC, where infections and deaths continue to mount.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He flew back to Kenya via Uganda on 3 October and died in a Nairobi hospital two days later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Health conducted robust contact tracing of anyone who may have been exposed, including family members, airline passengers and crew, airport workers and medical personnel. By 22 October, all contacts were traced \u2013 both in Kenya and abroad \u2013 and placed in quarantine. \u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As of Monday, eight contacts had developed symptoms and were confirmed positive for Ebola disease through laboratory testing. They were immediately transferred to the Ebola treatment centre in Nairobi.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Praise and support<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>In total, Kenya has reported nine confirmed Ebola cases and two deaths.
