{"id":103013,"date":"2026-10-13T16:52:00","date_gmt":"2026-10-13T16:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=103013"},"modified":"2026-10-13T16:52:00","modified_gmt":"2026-10-13T16:52:00","slug":"arab-news-influential-hindu-group-urges-india-to-block-starlink-amid-musk-ambani-feud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gulftimes.ae\/?p=103013","title":{"rendered":"Arab News | Influential Hindu group urges India to block Starlink amid Musk-Ambani feud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>BENGALURU: An influential Hindu nationalist group close to India\u2019s ruling party urged the government on Tuesday to block Elon Musk\u2019s Starlink from launching satellite Internet services in the country, citing national security concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Starlink\u2019s four-year wait to launch in India has come under renewed scrutiny after Musk last week accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s government and billionaire Mukesh Ambani of stalling its entry to favor Ambani\u2019s Reliance Jio.<\/p>\n<p>India\u2019s communications ministry said last week that security assessments were under way for Starlink and rival satellite ventures backed by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. It described suggestions the \u2060approval process was \u2060unfair or discriminatory as \u201cbaseless and misconceived.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The call for Starlink\u2019s ban came from Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), the economic wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Hindu nationalist organization that is the ideological parent of Modi\u2019s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.\n<\/p>\n<p>SJM also linked its demand to trade tensions with the \u2060US. If Washington imposes high tariffs on Indian imports \u201cin the name of national security, then India is certainly within its rights to block Starlink based on its genuine national security concerns,\u201d national co-convenor Ashwani MaHajjan said in a statement.\n<\/p>\n<p>Starlink\u2019s technology could make it difficult for authorities to restrict Internet services during security emergencies and ensure Indian Internet traffic passes through domestic infrastructure, MaHajjan added.\n<\/p>\n<p>SJM has influenced Indian policy in recent years, notably pushing for rules to protect small traders from US-owned e-commerce firms Amazon \u2060and Walmart\u2019s \u2060Flipkart.\n<\/p>\n<p>SpaceX, Starlink\u2019s parent company, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>MARKET WITH MORE THAN A BILLION INTERNET USERS\n<\/p>\n<p>Starlink is seeking to launch in a country with more than a billion Internet subscribers. Alongside Starlink, satellite ventures backed by Reliance Jio and Bharti are awaiting final clearances to begin services.\n<\/p>\n<p>Musk has repeatedly taunted Ambani on X, questioning why Starlink still lacked a license despite what he said were years of compliance with Indian requirements.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs Ambani the real boss of India?\u201d he posted last week, as he accused the rival
