Saturday, as the central bank announced an injection of up to $2 \u200bbillion to support the currency while the economy faces US sanctions and a naval blockade.<\/p>\n<p>The US dollar was sold around 2.688 million rials, up from 2.632 million on Friday, according to free-market tracking website bon-bast.com, \u200cwhile alanchand.com \u200creported 2.695 million rials \u200bper \u200cdollar.<\/p>\n<p>State \u2060television said \u200bstate banks \u2060began selling up to $2 billion to support the currency, which has lost more than half of its value in the past year.<\/p>\n<p>With an inflation rate of more than 70 percent, life \u2060is becoming ever tougher for ordinary \u200ccitizens unable to \u200cafford basic necessities or rent \u200bas a \u200cUS blockade cuts the state\u2019s financial lifeline \u2013 \u200coil exports.<\/p>\n<p>Many Iranians seeking safe havens for their savings have been buying dollars, other hard currencies or gold.<\/p>\n<p>Mehdi Darabi, an \u200caide to the central bank\u2019s governor on foreign exchange affairs, blamed \u2060the \u2060decline of the rial partly on what he said were false predictions by US officials of the collapse of the Iranian economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is suggested that the Iranian economy is about to crash&#8230; The enemy is using this to affect the exchange rate of our currency,\u201d Darabi told state \u200bTV, adding \u200bthat the current fall of the rial was
