PARIS: FIFA has accused European football\u2019s governing body UEFA of a \u201cmisinformation\u201d campaign in its bid to access documents related to Gianni Infantino\u2019s plan to sell off parts of the World Cup.<\/p>\n
In FIFA\u2019s response in a court case in Florida, it says UEFA\u2019s attempt to force the world body to hand over the documents is also an attempt to \u201cinfluence\u201d next year\u2019s FIFA presidential election.<\/p>\n
Infantino caused uproar in July with proposals to create a commercial subsidiary to run its biggest events, such as the World Cup and Club World Cup.<\/p>\n
The plan would have allowed private investors to acquire stakes in a company created under the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) initiative. The backlash that followed led to the proposals being quickly shelved.<\/p>\n
FIFA says in its court filing that UEFA makes \u201cnumerous false or misleading statements\u201d about Infantino and the world governing body, including that \u201cInfantino sought to profit personally from the FFE proposal\u201d.<\/p>\n
