HummingbirdEV to open microfactory in the UAE

New facility to focus on producing zero-emission commercial vehicles for the region

US-based electric vehicle manufacturer HummingbirdEV has announced plans to establish a new advanced microfactory facility in the UAE.

This microfactory paves the way for delivering custom e-mobility solutions to its clientele while also acting as a springboard for broader regional expansion, capitalising on advantageous free trade agreements in Southeast Asia, India, and the Mena region.

Rakesh Koneru, co-founder and CEO of HummingbirdEV, said: “We are thrilled to introduce HummingbirdEV to the UAE, and we’re invested in making it a hub for commercial vehicle manufacturing.

“We believe we’re positioned to accelerate the decarbonisation of commercial vehicles and advance global sustainability goals through our patented technologies that deliver on performance and cost. Our vehicles are not just zero-emission; they are purpose-built for the specific challenges and opportunities of this vibrant region.”

HummingbirdEV has also entered into a strategic partnership with IBMC Group, a UAE-based global investment & advisory firm.

The company has entered the thriving UAE e-mobility scene, driven by the country’s aggressive push towards electric vehicles as part of its efforts to increase the share of EVs to 50 per cent of total vehicles on the UAE’s roads by 2050.

According to the Global Electric Mobility Readiness Index published in 2022 by consultancy firm Arthur D. Little, the UAE EV market is currently in the early stages and is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30 per cent between 2022 and 2028.
