How can Iranian Air Defense benefit from an Interceptor Drone Armed With AAM?

27

Iranian air defense units have received Karrar drones equipped with a sophisticated air-to-air missile, allowing them to intercept and destroy hostile aerial targets at a lower cost than scrambling jet fighters.

The drones, armed with Majid missiles, can track and intercept targets with thermal and optical seekers. The Majid air defense missile allows air defense units to carry out air-based tactical defense operations in various geographical locations at a lower cost than manned warplanes and with lower risks. The delivery was attended by Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi.

Iranian Air Defense Force Brigadier General Alireza Elhami confirmed that the advanced interceptor drone, Karrar, equipped with a radar, has forced foreign aircraft to change course over the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea.

Karrar is the first Iranian military drone to set a service ceiling record by reaching 47,000 feet and has given radar or radio warnings to foreign aircraft approaching Iran’s coastal waters or its flight information region. This enables the armed forces to conduct a broader range of air defense operations at high altitudes.
