Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has told the BBC that a decision has still not yet been made for an Iranian delegation to travel to Islamabad for a new round of talks with the United States.
Baghaei expressed concern regarding the US’s naval blockade of its ports and the seizure of an Iranian vessel as well as President Trump’s threats to destroy Iran’s infrastructure.
“There have been many violations of the ceasefire… during the course of two day they have attacked Iranian vessels,” Baghaei said.
He added that discussions were still taking place on what conditions Iran required to return to the negotiating table.
The BBC understands that conversations are under way to try to create conditions for the resumption of talks before the ceasefire expires.
The BBC’s chief international correspondent Lyse Doucet is reporting from Tehran on condition that none of her material is used on the BBC’s Persian Service. These restrictions apply to all international media organisations operating in Iran.
