Rahul Gandhi becomes captain of Congress, demand raised in three states

New Delhi

Indian National Congress president election is near.  In such a situation, the demand for giving a command to Rahul Gandhi once again is gaining momentum.

So far, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh Congress have unanimously passed resolutions to make Rahul the president again. Chances are being raised that in the coming few days other state Congress committees can also seal the proposal in this way.

Rajasthan

On Saturday, the Rajasthan unit of Congress passed an informal resolution to elect Rahul as the party president. The Chief Minister of the state, Ashok Gehlot, who is considered to be at the fore in the race for the post, put forth his vote in a meeting held in Jaipur.

The special thing is that Rajasthan was the first state to do so. Apart from this, state minister Pratap Singh Khachariawas said that another resolution has been passed, in which the incoming party chief will have the right to choose the Rajasthan Congress President and choose AICC member from the state.

Chhattisgarh

On Sunday, Chhattisgarh also walked on the road to Rajasthan. In the state headed by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, a resolution was passed regarding making Rahul the President again and authorized to choose the state unit.

Both the proposals were approved in the meeting held at Rajiv Bhawan in the capital Raipur. State in-charge PL Punia, state president Mohan Markam and other state ministers were present in the meeting. CM Baghel said that 310 delegates have supported the proposal to make Rahul the president.

Gujarat

After Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the name Gujarat has also been included in this list. The demand for making Rahul the president was raised in the meeting of the state executive held in Ahmedabad. More than 490 members including district, taluka, city chief and state in-charge were present in the meeting. Gujarat Congress spokesperson said that the state chief Jagdish Thakur issued the resolution.

In the meeting, party president Sonia Gandhi was authorized to choose the Gujarat unit. In this regard, a motion was introduced in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly on behalf of the Leader of Opposition Sukhram Rathwa, which was supported by Bharatsinh Solanki, Arjun Modhwadia and Siddharth Patel.

The process of election of Congress President will be done with nominations on September 24. Candidates will be able to submit their nominations by 30 September. After this, elections will be held on October 17 and the results will be declared on October 19.

Rahul, who took charge of the party in the year 2017, resigned from the post after his defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
