China’s National People’s Congress and Nepal’s federal parliament sign MoU

KATHMANDU

The Federal Parliament of Nepal and the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Monday.

Speaker of House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota and NPC Standing Committee Chairman Lu Zhanshu signed and exchanged the MoU during a special ceremony held at the Federal Parliament building in New Baneshwor, according to the secretariat of the Speaker.

The 6-point MoU includes issues relating to the exchange of high-level visits and contacts between the two parliaments, promoting goodwill and understanding between the two parliaments, strengthening mutual assistance under the framework of regional and global organisations of the parliament, giving importance to facilitating mutual benefits by means of enhancing inter-connectivity between the two countries as per the agreements including the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) signed between the countries.

The MoU will remain valid for five years but it will also continue to be in force as it is until either side writes to amend or cancel it.

Before signing the MoU, a delegation-level bilateral meeting between the federal parliament of Nepal and the NPC of China was held at the federal parliament Monday evening.
