The G-20 summit in New Delhi has been a topic of discussion around the world, with a joint declaration calling for peace in Ukraine and urging member countries to refrain from using force to occupy territories or act against territorial integrity.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed anger at Western countries in their response, claiming that the West cannot maintain intelligent discussions about Ukraine. Lavrov also criticized the West for not delivering on its promises of $100 billion annually to developing countries to tackle climate change.
Lavrov praised India’s leadership during the summit, stating that it united G-20 countries from the Global South for the first time in history. He expressed gratitude to India for stopping efforts to politicize the G-20 and emphasized that the West’s hegemony will not last as new centres of power emerge. The summit has been a milestone, but there is still much work to be done. India’s active role in chairing the G-20 has strengthened the position of the Global South for the first time.
