A district and sessions court in Islamabad has extended the interim bail for Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, until September 12 in the Toshakhana case. Bushra Bibi appeared in court with her lawyers, Salman Safdar, Intezaar Panjotha, and Naeem Panjotha.

The investigating officer requested the judge to allow the arrest of Bushra Bibi during the hearing. The judge questioned whether the case was related to fake receipts and where the audio came from. The investigating officer requested the court give time to match Bushra Bibi’s voice with the audio. The court adjourned the hearing until September 12.

Bushra Bibi is accused of possessing various items from Toshakhana Gifts, including a locket, chain, earrings, two rings, and a bracelet. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) states that Toshakhana was not submitted for calculating the prices of gifts. The Toshakhana issue became a major issue in Pakistani politics after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified Imran Khan for making “false statements and false declarations.”

The Islamabad Court suspended Imran Khan’s sentence and directed them to release him on bail from Attock Jail. However, the special court ordered him on judicial remand in the Cypher case. Bushra Bibi has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking a stay on her possible arrest, claiming that maintaining the confidentiality of the cases registered against him is illegal, unlawful, and a violation of fundamental rights.
