The India government is developing infrastructure in areas adjacent to LAC counter To counter Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the central government of India is developing infrastructure in the border region of Arunachal Pradesh.

Brij Raman Kumar, the chief engineer of this ‘project promoter’, said that the Border Road Organization (BRO) is working on the development and maintenance of the road network in the main border areas of Western Assam and West Arunachal Pradesh. Besides, we also have road construction works such as national highways, one-lane, and double-lane. But we also want to contribute to the socio-economic development of this region by connecting the remote areas of the Tawang district.

He informed us that two tunnels named Sela Tunnel and Nechifu Tunnel are being constructed as it is difficult for vehicles to move due to heavy snowfall in winter.

Engineer Kumar says, “The Sela tunnel is under construction and is 400 meters below the Sela pass. After the tunnel construction is completed, it will be easier for people to move through it even in winter. We are working on the construction of the Nechifu Tunnel near Nechifu Pass. After the completion of this construction work, the movement of military and civilian vehicles will be more effortless. This will help not only the infrastructure of the region but also the promotion of tourism.

Similarly, apart from this road network and other infrastructure development works, the government is working to strengthen mobile connectivity in Tawang and other border areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

More mobile towers have been installed in LAC in Tawang and its other border areas.

About the internet connection, a local said, ‘Mobile and internet connection has improved a bit than before, but it is still not working well here. It still has many weaknesses.

Another resident said, “If we compare earlier, there has been some improvement in connectivity.” Earlier, you could not use the internet, but now you can use Facebook and WhatsApp.

On 13 December, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) forces had attempted to cross the Line of Actual Control in the Yangtze sector of Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh and sought to unilaterally change the status quo. He was forced to retreat. Due to the timely intervention of the Indian soldiers, they had to retreat.

The Defense Minister assured the Upper House that ‘our forces are determined to protect our territorial integrity and continue to thwart any attempt to change the status quo.
