At least eight people killed, including children, were reported missing after a building collapsed in the city of Recife, the capital of Brazil’s Pernambuco province. The Civil Defense and Fire Department has given this information.

The department said that as of Friday afternoon, a man, a woman and a teenager were found dead in the rubble while two people, a 65-year-old woman and a 15-year-old child, were rescued alive. According to the report of the fire department, the incident occurred at around 6 am local time when one block of the building collapsed completely while the other partially collapsed.

The building had a ground floor and three other floors, each containing four apartments. He said the Recife area has been experiencing heavy rains since Thursday night, making it difficult for the fire department to search for the missing.
