41 killed, more than 700 arrested in anti-hijab protest

Massive protests continue in the country following the custodial death of Mahsa Amini, a woman arrested by Morality Police in Iran.

These demonstrations are not taking the name of stopping even in front of the repressive attitude of the government, due to which social media sites have also been banned. According to reports, at least 41 people have died and more than 700 people, including 60 women, have been arrested in the ongoing protests in Iran.

Iranian girl Mahsa Amini was arrested in Tehran by the Moral Police for violating the dress code in Tehran (for not wearing a hijab). After the arrest, the girl went into a coma and then she died. After the death of 22-year-old Mehsa Amini, mass protests erupted in many cities of the country.

The Iranian government has banned several other social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Skype, LinkedIn and Instagram, news agency AFP reported, citing web monitor Netblox. In addition, the government and administration have arrested hundreds of social activists and journalists in strict action against the protests.

Iranian state television put the death toll at 41 in protests that broke out across the country. Apart from this, while giving information, the Iranian government said that public and private properties have also been set on fire by protesters in different parts of the country. An Oslo-based Iran Human Rights Institute claims 54 people have died if the number of casualties of security personnel is excluded. It is also claimed that most of the deaths occurred in Mazandaran and Gilan States.

Let us tell you that in the last few days, many videos and pictures have surfaced on social media in which protesters in different cities of the country condemned the strict laws of the government. Some such videos had also surfaced on social media in which women were seen cutting their hair and burning their hijabs.
